How can I fix a relationship with my Dad?
My dad lives in another state from me and I live with my mother (who doesn’t show any hope for me and my dad’s relationship). I quit talking to him about a year ago. He molested me as a child and still denies it, so it’s hard to love him. I really hate him, but I want to love him. I’m not even sure if he wants to love me. He hasn’t tried talking to me since I told him to beat it, so I don’t know what to do.
It sounds like you are willing to accept what your dad did and forgive him. However, it sounds like he is not willing to do anything to repair the broken relationship, which was caused by his abuse. I understand you wanting to have a relationship with your father, but you need to ask yourself at what cost? You can love him, but sometimes loving means tough love too. The important thing is loving yourself and healing, and living your own, healthy, happy life. Don’t beat your head against a wall trying to fix something that perhaps can’t be fixed. I’m sorry, I’m very sad for you:)
